Abstract

Currently, the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) into the teaching of the Portuguese language in high school has gained prominence as a key educational practice. The use of digital resources and online tools presents unique challenges and opportunities for educators in this context. This study aims to analyze the challenges faced when utilizing ICT in the teaching and learning process of the Portuguese language in public high schools. The research is basic in nature and adopts a literature review using the PRISMA statement guidelines for data collection. The data were analyzed through a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach. The results highlight major challenges faced by teachers, such as the lack of professional development, resistance to technology adoption, work overload including activities outside school hours, and a lack of infrastructure in public schools. Conversely, the benefits evidenced in the literature point to enhanced student performance, collaborative learning, increased engagement and motivation, and more dynamic classes. It is concluded that, despite significant challenges, the use of ICT has a positive impact on Portuguese language teaching in secondary education, contributing to pedagogical innovation and the improvement of the teaching-learning process.
