Until the mid-1990s, ICTs were little publicized, leaving limited space for theoretical speculation and the use of these innovations in teaching and educational processes. Today, they have become indispensable tools for the teaching and learning process. In this sense, this study sought to analyze the implications of the use of ICTs in the teaching work process, focused on a pedagogical practice linked to the demands of contemporary society, at the Newton Bello Teaching Center, located in Lima Campos/MA. The research presented here is part of the context of qualitative research, employing the case study as a research technique. The sample consisted of teachers who are part of the school's teaching staff in the afternoon and evening shifts. For data collection, we used: 1 – application of questionnaires to record teachers' statements about what they think and how they use ICTs; and 2 – on-site observation on school days, in order to facilitate a closer understanding of the phenomenon studied. The results suggest that the use of ICTs allows for and provides alternatives for qualitative teaching and learning. However, it is necessary to implement public policies for ICT training focused on teaching practice, as well as favorable structural conditions for the use of these tools in the daily classroom routine.
